(FI.PS->FI.HTM_JPE) (FJ.PS->FJ.JPE) (FP.PS->FP.PDF) (FT.PS->FT.TIF)
File names (only last 4 characters)
to produce the output by Table (T) colour management (using
"T" and characters A, B, ..., T):
(TA.PS->TA.TXT) (TB.PS->TB.BMP) (TG.PS->TG.GIF) (TH.PS->TH.HTM_GIF)
(TI.PS->TI.HTM_JPE) (TJ.PS->TJ.JPE) (TP.PS->TP.PDF) (TT.PS->TT.TIF)
File names (only last 4 characters)

(using "M" and characters A, B, ..., T):
(MA.PS->MA.TXT) (MB.PS->MB.BMP) (MG.PS->MG.GIF) (MH.PS->MH.HTM_GIF)
(MI.PS->MI.HTM_JPE) (MJ.PS->MJ.JPE) (MP.PS->MP.PDF) (MT.PS->MT.TIF)
The basic files are NA.PS, FA.PS, TA.PS, MA.PS. They differ
by small modifications only. The files FA.PS, TA.PS and MA.PS
include after the default cmyn data of the series "10"
and "11" (see about line 260 in file starting with:
%CMYW4DFA.PS CMYWDEF4D=1) the model measurement data CMYW4DXA.PS
(X=F, T, M). The model measurement data CMYW4DFA.PS include e.
g. for the series w-n instead of the "linear
data 1.000, 0.933, ... , 0.067, 0.000" the "square data
1.000 0.871, ..., 0.004 0.000". The different data are in
the following table lines:
% Linear, square and square root data
(16 and 5 steps)
% 1.000 0.933 0.867 0.800 0.733 0.667 0.600 0.533
% 0.467 0.400 0.333 0.267 0.200 0.133 0.067 0.000

% 1.000 0.866 0.707 0.500 0.000
All files NA.PS, FA.PS, TA.PS, MA.PS will reproduce the same series "10" at the top. The file NA.PS (N=No colour management) will reproduce the "square output" in the series "11NA" at the bottom. In the files FA.PS, TA.PS, and MA.PS different colour management methods (F=Function, T=Table, M=Measurement) are used to change the square output "11NA" at the bottom into the original output "10". Then the series "10" at the top and the series "11FA, 11TA, 11MA" at the bottom appear the same. The most simple method for colour measurement is to use a "square root function" to bring the "square function" of the series "11NA" back to the "linear function" of the series "10". This is realized in the file FA.PS.
For simple examples about square and square root model output and a BAM technical report see the URLs:
http://o2.ps.bam.de/INFVM03/8640/A4Q8640E.PDF
http://o2.ps.bam.de/INFVM03/8640/BAM8640E.PDF
The files CMYW4DXA.PS (X=F,T,M) include the square output data which are added after the default data. Three colour management methods (F=Function, T=Table, M=Measurement) are defined in this file to change the "square data" of the series "11N" back to the "linear data" of the series "10". Of course the "square root function" (method F) is the most simple way to do this job and such a square root function is defined in CMYW4DFA.PS
There are two additional files and two
additional corresponding data files for two additional colour
management methods:
1. FS.PS and CMYW4DFS.PS (S=Startup colour management)
2. MD.PS and CMYW4DFD.PS (D=Device colour management)
The files CMYW4DXY.PS (XY=FS, FD) are not added to the file (A)
but stored in the Adobe Distiller "Startup" (S)
directory or a PostSript Device (D) and the colour management
method takes the data from these locations.
One very effective method is to store the "model square data" in a PostSript device. Then a standard file looks for the "model square data" and a colour management method (F, T, M) whitin this PostScript device. If they are present the corresponding colour management method will be used. One possible way is to redefine the PostScript operators setgray, setcmykcolor and setrgbcolor within the device by using the CMYW4DFD.PS device data. Then every setcmykcolor output will be changed according to the CMYW4DFD.PS device data
Examples:
PS-output files NA.PS and FA.PS useful for a PS device only:
The file NA.PS (No colour Management) includes no output measurement
data. The file NA.PS will produce an square model output in series
"11N" compared to the series "10" on the PS
device.
The file FA.PS (F=function colour management) includes the square
model output measurement data CMYW4DFA.PS. The file FA.PS will
produce the same output in series "11FA" compared to
the series "10" on the PS device.
PS-output file FDA.PS useful for a PS device only:
The file FDA.PS (F=Function, D=PS device) takes the output measurement
data from the file CMYW4FDA.PS stored permanently in the PS device
by a special command of the PostScript programming language. The
file FDA.PS will produce the same output in series "11FDA"
compared to the series "10" on the PS device.
Important remark: The file FD.PS will produce different
output on different PS devices. If the corresponding different
files CMYW4DFD.PS (resulting from measurement) are stored in the
different corresponding PS devices by the same file name then
the same (standard) file FD.PS will produce the intended equidistant
output on any (!) of the different PS devices. No additional software
is necessary (!) to produce from the (standard) file FD.PS the
same output on different PS devices.
Remark: The examples here do not use individual transfer functions
(e.. g. only square and not square root) of PS devices. Examples
will be shown later by the URL:
http://o2.ps.bam.de/DE06/DE06.HTM
PDF-output file FSP.PDF (produced from
FSP.PS=FSA.PS) useful for a
non PS device only:
The file FSP.PS (S=startup file) takes the output measurement
data from the file CMYW4DFS.PS in the Adobe Acrobat Distiller
Startup (S) directory. The file CMYW4DFS.PS includes the output
measurement data of the file FSP.PDF used for the first output
on a non PS device. The file FSP.PDF will produce the same
output in series "11FSP" compared to the series "11"
on a non PS device.
Remark: It is recommended to produce a copy of the Adobe
Acrobat 3.0 directory with the name Adobe Acrobat 3.0_S (S=Startup)
and to change the name of the Distiller 3.0 to Distiller 3.0_S.
There is only one file Example.ps in this directory and CMYW4DFSP.PS
must be added. The Distiller 3.0_S takes all the PS commands
of both files every time when producing a PDF file from
a PS file, here FSP.PDF from FSP.PS. (The original Distiller
3.0 takes still the PS commands from the directory Startup with
only the file Example.ps as usual).
The is a possibility for colour management using the PS file FA.PS
via BMP, GIF, HTM_GIF, HTM_JPE, JPE, TIF. For this it is required
to copy the file FA.PS (includes colour management in the file)
and to rename the copies to FB.PS, FG,PS, ..., FT.PS. Adobe
Illustrator 8.0 was used to transfer to the files FA.BMP,
FA.GIF, ..., FA.TIF. More information about the production and
the properties of these files are given in
http://o2.ps.bam.de/DE04/DE04.HTM
Therefore the following file names (only last 4 characters) include
functional (F) colour management (FA.PS->FA.TXT) (FB.PS->FB.BMP)
(FG.PS->FG.GIF) (FH.PS->FH.HTM_GIF) (FI.PS->FI.HTM_JPE)
(FJ.PS->FJ.JPE) (FP.PS->FP.PDF) (FT.PS->FT.TIF)
This output may be compared by the output of the files which include
No (N) colour management (NA.PS->NA.TXT) (NB.PS->NB.BMP)
(NG.PS->NG.GIF) (NH.PS->NH.HTM_GIF) (NI.PS->nI.HTM_JPE)
(NJ.PS->NJ.JPE) (NP.PS->NP.PDF) (NT.PS->NT.TIF)

3. Output colour management of 16step colour series output with different file formats BMP, GIF, HTM_GIF, HTM_JPE, JPE, TIF
There are 4 colour series, e. g. White Cyanblue (wc) of the first output (c*10) and the second optimized output (c*11).
The following array data in the PS file (near line 350) are the original data /tzaccmyw0 (equally spaced) and the calculated data /tzaccmyw1 to get the relative equidistant output spacing in CIELAB space (using the PS file) for a special printer.

The first line includes the c*
data for the colour series cyanbluewhite. The m*, y*
and n* data can be included in the next lines.
If the second PS array (/tzaccmyw1a) includes only data in one
line then we have a one dimenional (1D) correction. There may
be a 3D (cmy*) or 4D (cmyn*) correction to optimize
the output more acurate. The calculation of the array data for
the 3D and 4D optimization is under development.
One method for a 1D correction is described by

Remark 1: The different file formats
are computed here by the software Adobe Acrobat Illustrator
8.0 on Macintoshusing the original (hand coded) PostScript
(PS) file format.
Remark 2: It is asumed that e. g. the public domain software GoScript
and other software will give equivalent transformations of the
file format PostScript (PS). There is a wish to get the
different file formats also by hand coding in the different formats
(like the original eps- or PS-program code). This has not been
realized yet and is not important if the following remark is confirmed.
Remark 3: The optimized colour output (equal relative spacing in CIELAB) is independent of the file format (PS, PDF, BMP, GIF, HTM_GIF89, HTM_JPE, JPE, TIF) and the application software (Adobe Acrobat Illustrator , GoScript ) used. This statement must be confirmed for every file format and application software by colour measurement.
Remark 4: There is the user requirement to optimize the colour output only for a limited amount of file formats and application programs for his computer environement. Different file formats and application programs may give the same fist and second output. It is important to realize that the optimization is possible (on the second output) for every combination of file format and application program.
