Start and linearized monitor or printer output
of the ISO/IEC-test chart no. 3 (offset range) according to ISO/IEC 15775:1999-12

The three transparent test charts for monitors (compare the red marked digital files in Table 3) may be ordered by name:
L77E00FP (Full part), L77E01FP (Upper part), L77E02FP (Lower part)

Output Linearisation (OL) in the file is used here.
For more information about OL and the different methods see DE48.HTM

The following output includes 16 grey colours equally spaced in relative L* of CIELAB in the linearized output

The output depends on the colour workflow.
For more information about input and output PS operators see DE81.HTM

1. w* setgray is used in the files "NP" (NA.PS, NP.PS, NA.PDF, NP.PDF)
2. w* setgray
and output linearization is used in the files "FP" (FA.PS, FP.PS, FA.PDF, FP.PDF)

For technical papers with discussion and application of the material, see XY91AE.html

Remark 1: The input and output PS operator w* setgray is used in all figures of the test chart and output linearization is used.
Remark 2: If the "Measurement Data" are "L=Linear" then the output linearization has no visual effect as long as the linear input data LAB* or XYZ for the monitor or printer output are not changed in the LAB* and XYZ tables at the beginning of the files.

Instead of L=Linear LAB* or XYZ data files other LAB* or XYZ data may be used in the files which change the output, see the other files:
1. Q=Quadratic data files Q77*, DE77Q.HTM
2. S=Square root data files S77*, DE77S.HTM
3. B=Imange setter data files B77*, DE77B.HTM
4. V=Video corrected data files V77* (not realized)

It is recommended to study first the three red marked files.
The two files "NP" and "FP"
1.
L77E00NP.PDF (NP: all parts of the test chart with w* setgray and NO Output Linearisation)
2.
L77E00FP.PDF (FP: all parts of the test chart with w* setgray and Output Linearisation (OL))
include all parts of the test charts and show the w* setgray output without and with Output Linearisation (OL). The two are identical if the LAB* data or XYZ data at the beginning of the files include linear data.

The three files "FP"
1.
L77E00FP.PDF (00FP: all parts of the test chart)
2.
L77E01FP. PDF (01FP: upper part of the test chart)
3.
L77E05FP.PDF (02FP: lower part of the test chart, only lower part of Fig. C3)
show all output with Output Linearisation (OL). The output of the file L77E05FP.PDF (02FP: lower part of the test chart) looks darker. Within the file the grey data are changed by a quadratic function of the original grey data which make the input data between 0 and 1 smaller. Instead of the "linear" input data: 0, 1/15, 2/15, ..., 14/15, 1 the following "quadratic" input data are used in the file 05FP: 0, (1/15)(1/15), (2/15)(2/15), ... (14/15)(14/15), 1. Such differences may appear by a monitor or printer driver. The question is if we can correct the output failure of such a driver. The answer is Yes. The 6 steps to verify this are decribed in the following:

General: The output of the 16 steps of the file L77E05FP.PDF (05FP: lower part of the test chart) must be compared sample by sample with the output of the file L77E01FP. PDF (01FP: upper part of the test chart).
If possible then choose the transparent ISO/IEC-test chart no. 3 as reference (available from BAM).
If the transparent test chart is NOT available then choose as reference the digital output of the file L77E01FP.PDF(01FP: upper part of the test chart).

The procedure for the comparison of the digital output and the reference output is decribed in DE70R.HTM
