how to use all the PDF-files successfuly:
The PDF-files work best if they are downloaded and then shown
by Adobe Reader 3.0 or later.
1a. On Macintosh choose for the internet browsers the following
download options: "application/pdf, binary and Acrobat
Reader 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0" and "download to folder"
and "show with application Adobe Reader 3.0 or later".
1b. On Windows choose for the internet browsers the similar
download options by the right mouse bottom: "application/pdf,
binary and Acrobat Reader 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0" and "download
to directory" and "show with application Acrobat
Reader 3.0 or later".
2. Sometimes the Plug-In PDFViewer does not work for the
PDF-files. The reason is unknown but some files may be too large
or may use too many variables.
3. Sometimes the option "show directly with browser"
does not work and shows an empty page. The reason is unknown.
A second click on the PDF-file often shows the correct page.
4. In a worse case download the PS-file and use Adobe Acrobat
Distiller3.0 or later to produce a PDF-file.
Remark: Mac OS X Server comes with a new Display PostScript System (DPS: Application Yap which shows the output of the PS files and produces on request PDF files.
Remark: Mac OS X (normal system, not the server system) as a new software PDF-Preview which shows the PDF files directly on the monitor. The different possibilities and alternates compared to the software Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Distiller (to view PDF files and to produce PDF files from PS files) are under study. It is interesting to see the differences of the output on the Mac Display PS and Display PDF system for the different PS and PDF files of the ISO/IEC-test chart no. 3 according to ISO/IEC 15775. The files above of the ISO/IEC-test charts use input and output PS operators in different colour spaces (absolute colour spaces LAB* (CIELAB), and relative colour spaces w*, n*, cmyn* (cmyk), olv* (rgb), and lab*. The output should be (according to colorimetry) the same for the corresponding colour space data, but there are large differences depending on the software (monitor and printer drivers), and the devices and the hardware and software setttings.
