Start and linearized printer output of the ISO/IEC-test chart no. 3 (offset range) according to ISO/IEC 15775:1999-12
There are four different methods to linearize the printer output:
1. By Output Linearization (OLF) data in the file (F)
2. By Output Linearization (OLS) data in the Distiller Startup (S) directory
3. By Output Linearization (OLD) data in the PostScript device (D) memory
4. Output Linearization (OLP) data in the PostScript Printer Driver PPD file (P)

Remark 1: The output result produced is the same for the four methods, see the URL DE09
Remark 2: The output result produced here by File Output Linearisation (OLF) is based on measurement of the LAB* CIELAB data instead of only lightness L* data used in DE09

For similar Methods to produce a start and linearized output for a single Figure or many Figures of the ISO/IEC-test charts or the complete ISO/IEC-test charts, see DE00

For the accuracy of the Start and Linearized printer output for the digital 16 step colour series, see DE14L

1. Output Linearization (OL) of the ISO/IEC-test chart no. 3

Step S1: Start output of the 16 grey steps.
Remark: The measurement data of CIELAB LAB* of the 16 grey steps are used to produce an linearized output.
Step S2: linearized output of the 16 equidistant grey steps in CIE lightness L*
Step S3 (optional): Specification of the reproduction properties of the start output and the linearized output according to the method given in Annex G of ISO/IEC 15775: 1999-12.

Short description of the method using the PS output method for device T:
1. The file A/DE19/10T/T10E00NA.PS is used to produce a PS ouput on a PS printer.
2. The 16 LAB*-CIELAB data of the 16 gray steps of the output NA are measured in the sequence F to 0.
3. The 16 LAB*-CIELAB data of the output NA are included in the files FA and RA (R=result, optional not listed here, for the accuracy data as table and figure see DE14L).
4. The file A/DE19/10T/T10E00FA.PS is used to produce the linearized PS ouput on a PS printer.
5. The 16 LAB*-CIELAB data of the 16 gray steps of the output FA are measured in the sequence F to 0.
6. The 16 L*-lightness data of the output FA are included in the file RA (R=result, optional, not listed here, see the accuracy data as table and figure see DE14L).

Remark: For a PDF output on any printer (instead of the PS output on a PS printer) the software Adobe Acrobat Distiller or an equivalent is necessary. The software is used to produce PDF files from PS files.

Output linearization of the achromatic ISO/IEC-test chart no. 3

If the start printer output of the ISO/IEC-test chart fails to pass some of the ISO/IEC-tests according to ISO/IEC 15775, e. g. to recognize 16 grey steps or at least 5 of the 8 Landolt -rings in a row, then there is the intention for an linearized printer output.

At least the actual measurement data of lightness L* (or the LAB* CIELAB data) for the colours 48 to 63 (colour series N W ) must be included in the digital file FP.PS, e. g. T10E00FP.PS, arround the line number 83 to produce a linearized output.

Remark 1: In the file T10E00FP.PS the PS operator 0 0 0 n* setcmykcolor is used and therefore the CIELAB data of the colour series N W must be changed.

Remark 2: The CIELAB data of the colours 112 to 128 (colour series A W) must be changed if the PS operator c* m* y* 0 setcmycolor is used in the digital file T10E00FP.PS. The change must be arround the line number 147 to produce a linearized output. This is not the case in the following files FP.PS.

The PostScript operator cmyn* = 000n* setcmykcolor is used for both the start and the linearized output

3. File Output Linearization (OLF) to produce the linearized output (step S2)

At least the actual measurement lightness L* data (or the LAB* CIELAB data) for the colours 48 to 63 (colour series N W) of the file NP.PS, e. g. T10E00NP.PS, must be included in the digital file FP.PS, e. g. T10E00FP.PS, arround the line number 83 to produce a linearized output of an actual printer.

The PostScript operator cmyn* = 000n* setcmykcolor is used for both the start and the linearized output

Remark: Other grey output possibilities are in preparation (compare DE09), such as
1. w* setgray
2. n* n* n* 0 setcmykcolor
3. w* w* w* setrgbcolor
In general each output is different using one of the methods no. 1 to 3 compared to the method used here (0 0 0 n* setcmykcolor).
