PDF-test files for relative colour image reproduction
according to the draft (D) standard E DIN 33872-1 to -6:2007-11

The draft standard E DIN 33872-1 to 6:2007 consist of six parts
E DIN 33872 Information technology - Office machines - Method of specifying relative colour reproduction with YES/NO criteria
- Part 1: Classification, terms and principles
- Part 2: Test charts for output properties - Testing of discriminability of 5 and 16 step colour series
- Part 3: Test chart for output properties - Testing of equality for four equivalent grey definitions and discriminability of the 16 grey steps
- Part 4: Test chart for output properties - Testing of equality for two equivalent colour definitions with 5 and 16 step colour series
- Part 5: Test charts for output properties - Testing of elementary hue agreement and hue discriminibility
- Part 6: Test charts for output properties - Testing of the equivalent spacing and of the regular chromatic spacing

For additional information to the standard series E (Draft) DIN 33872 see the PDF file (39 pages, 1,4 MByte) with the title (only in German available)

The YES/NO questions and some additional questions for the output are in any case at the last page (Page 11 or 2) of the files.

File 1: PDF test file with 5 and 16 step colour series for the test of
Discriminability (YES/NO desision)

5 and 16 step adjacent colours for 10 hues (OYLCVMRJGB)
Example file with PS operator rgb setrgbcolor (11 pages, 350 kByte)
XE70/10L/L70E00NP.PDF

5 steps for ORS18 (left) and 16 steps for ORS18 (right), image file format JPG

Example file with PS operator cmy0 setcmykcolor (11 pages, 350 kByte)
XE80/10L/L80E00NP.PDF

For similar files, e. g. in PS-Format and with Portrait (P) orientation (P) see
XE70 und XE80

File 2: PDF test file with equivalent grey definition for the test of
1. Equal output with four grey definitions (YES/NO decision)
2. Discriminability of 16 step gray series (YES/NO decision)

16 step gray series for four standard PS operators
Example file with four PS operators w setgray, 000n setcmykcolor, nnn0 setcmykcolor, www setrgbcolor (2 pages, 50 kByte)
XE75/10L/L75E00NP.PDF

16steps for ORS18, image file format JPG

For similar files, e. g. in PS-Format and with Portrait (P) orientation (P) see
XE75

Remarks:
In the above picture all grey series appear equal on the colour monitor and approximately equally spaced. The above image file format has been produced with the software "Gostscript".

The print of the above picture in E DIN 33872-3:2007 ha produced four different output grey scales for the four images.

By output on black and white or colour printers and on colour monitors all variations are produced between the two extrem possibilities "All four grey series equal and equally spaced" and "All grey series different". In general the printer and monitor drivers work independent. Therefore on the monitor all outputs may be equal and on the printer all may be different or vice versa.

File 3: PDF test file with equivalent colour definition for the test of
1. Equal output of 5 and 16 step colour series with two colour definitions (YES/NO decision)

5 and 16 step adjacent colours for 10 hues (OYLCVMRJGB)
Example file with two PS operators cmy0 setcmykcolor (center field) and rgb setrgbcolor (background)(11 pages, 350 kByte)
XE62/10L/L62E00NP.PDF

5 steps for ORS18 (left) and 16 steps for ORS18 (right), image file format JPG

For similar files, e. g. in PS-Format and with Portrait (P) orientation (P) see
XE62

Remarks
The above picture with colour steps leads to equal colour steps with the image file format JPG and shows colour differences up to 30 CIELAB in the print of the standard draft E DIN 33872-4:2007. If in the printer driver an option "Colour Management Off" can be chosen then the printer output is often equal as shown with the image file format JPG.

File 4: PDF test file with 20 hues of maximum chroma for the test of
1. Elementary hue agreement (YES/NO decision)
2. Discriminability of colours of 20 hues (YES/NO decision)

20 step symmetric hue circle of the four elementary colours (RJGB)
Example file with PS operator rgb setrgbcolor (2 pages, 50 kByte)
XE63/10L/L63E00NP.PDF

20 steps for ORS18 (left) and 20 steps for ORS18 (right), image file format JPG

Example file with PS operator cmy0 setcmykcolor (2 pages, 50 kByte)
XE83/10L/L83E00NP.PDF

For similar files, e. g. in PS-Format and with Portrait (P) orientation (P) see
XE63 und XE83

File 5: PDF test file with 9x9 colour steps of the planes O-C, Y-V and L-M for the test of
1. equivalent spacing (YES/NO decision)
2. regular chromatic spacing (YES/NO decision)

6 times 9x9 colours
